An active composer for over ten years, Ryan released his first record of ten original pieces for guitar entitled “ermita” in 2011. In 2012, he published the corresponding sheet music and tablature. These pieces employ classical guitar technique to explore the reaches of steel string and fingerstyle guitar. A gifted melodist, Ryan also likes to experiment with gestures, textures, and rhythmic ideas in his compositions. From the driving rhythms of “sengi” and “ebb a bit,” to the sweet and melodic “after after,” “ermita” is a record that showcases the diverse sonic world of the solo acoustic guitar.
Ryan recently took 2nd Place at the 2012 Guitar Fest Live Fingerstyle Competition in Livermore, CA

It combines massage techniques for a therapeutic experience and can be combined with a dynamic interactive balancing or acrobatic experience. These aspects of flying allow the spine of the flyer to open and stretch while the base (the person holding the flyer) receives a strengthening exercise. It is a practice in trust, in your partner but more importantly within yourself. This practice allows you to grow and expand and open up to new opportunities, and creates possibilities that you could not achieve on your own.
Wear comfortable yoga clothes. Come with a mat and a friend, a partner or just on your own. You will definitely meet a great bunch of people.

Inversions: the Basics and Beyond
Jul 21, 2013
12:30 pm - 3:00pm

Change your perspective by turning your world upside down.

If you've ever been afraid of trying Adho Mukha Vrksasana (handstand), Pinca
Mayurasana (forearm stand) Sirsasana (headstand) or Sarvangasana (shoulder
stand), this is your opportunity!

Overcoming fear and limitations is an important step when learning to go
upside down. This workshop will teach you the proper technique for
performing inversions in progressive stages, ensuring that you not only
master the technique, but also helping you prevent injuries.

We'll explore basic and advanced inversions, with a focus on the foundation
exercises, including getting up unassisted, and balancing at the wall.
Students will work at their own pace with the opportunity to explore more
advanced variations.

The benefits of these poses are numerous, helping soothe the nervous system
and nourish and revitalize the entire body. We will move through a sequence
that will build strength and stamina, sharpen your concentration, refine
your understanding of healthy anatomy and biomechanics, and prepare you for
these fun and enlightening postures.

"GROW YOUR WINGS" ARM BALANCE & INVERSION WORKSHOP with Nicole Doherty
Sep 14, 2013
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM

We are fascinated with the winged ones in the sky. In a yoga practice we aim to emulate their agility and grace in the arm balances named after them. In this workshop, we will bring our awareness to our center to create the balance and stability required to take flight.

The blueprint of most arm blanches is Chaturanga, so we will break down the yogic pushup in detail to understand the architecture of more advanced poses. We will then construct common arm balances such as Crow, Twisting Grow, Flying Pigeon and inversions such as Pincha Mayurasana with more awareness.

You can't fly a plane in one day, so don't be intimidated. It's all about learning the basic structure, where to bear weight and letting go of your fears. Surrender to your lightness of being!

Requirements
Foundational understanding of yoga postures and sun salutes. Props, variations and modifications will be offered to suit most levels. You are not required to have an arm balance practice to attend.

focus through breath and touch

At about 28 weeks my partner, a novice to yoga, joined in the practice, and Mara gracefully guided us to the birth of our son. The skills we learned with Mara came like second nature when labor began. My partner was able to comfort me and help me focus through breath and touch. Before leaving us to bond with our son, the nurses commented that my breathing throughout was truly impressive. Mara’s ability to impart her wisdom gave us confidence in preparing to give birth and serenity throughout.

Energy of Postures

Energy of Postures
Jan 25, 2014
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Date: Saturday, December 14th Time: 1:30-4:30 $40 / $50 day Beyond the postures the systems of yoga illuminate a subtle body. This lighter version of the physical body is built by prana. Prana itself contains the Sanskrit root prā "to fill.“ Often translated to “vital force” and comparable to the Chinese concept of Qi, Prana flows through the body in particular patterns or via tubes of energy that can be manipulated. This intensive will cover application of vital energy by use of breathing techniques and adjustments with a deeper look at the subtle body (chakras, bandhas, nadis) and it’s relationship to the practitioner. The emphasis of this practice is for the student to develop a deeper awareness of their practice in relationship to the energy within - a perfect path of yoga.

Sound Bath Yoga with Niki Saccareccia & Guy Douglas
Dec 05, 2014
7.30 PM - 9.00 PM

Sound Bath Yoga is a relaxing experience fusing ancient eastern instruments and restorative and yin yoga poses. The practice is gentler and slower than a normal yoga class, and often used therapeutically. The resonance of the instruments is used specifically to induce a state of meditation, and include chakra based crystal singing bowls, Tibetan metal bowls and planetary gongs. In this event, participants listen to beautiful meditative music as they relax in a series of deep, soothing stretches.

The yoga poses involve minimal effort on the participants behalf, with the majority of the class consisting of restorative poses using props. This practice is deeply beneficial to the mind and body.

We will begin with an hour of sacred sound, during which arrange ourselves in relaxing "yin" yoga poses. We will indulge in supportive restorative poses, using bolsters, blankets and blocks. We finish with a half hour sound immersion using planetary gongs surrounding the room.

Integrating Asana & Vinyasa with Duncan Wong

Integrating Asana & Vinyasa with Duncan Wong
Jan 24, 2015 - Jan 24, 2015
1:00PM - 4:00PM

Join Duncan for a workshop based on the theory of flow integration. This session involves separating and connecting the asana from the linking motions of the vinyasa, using the Warrior Salutation, Vira Namaskar, as our practicing model of applied movement mechanics. We will explore how the vinyasa guides us into the stillness of the asana, and how the breath energy, prana, and yogic sound tuning, mantra, lead to true mindful bliss, satchitanada - a balanced state of being.

Linking form and motion via our pranayama and bandha, we will learn to qualify our range of movement with the length of our breath as a means of attaining pure vinyasana, the balanced practice of relating the majesty of posture with the fluidity of movement.

Anatomy of Sustainable Change with Joy Stone
Jan 25, 2015 - Jan 25, 2015
1:00 PM - 4:00 PM

We've all made resolutions, and most of us found ourselves abandoning them altogether, or falling back into old patterns. As we enter into another new year, with the opportunity for a fresh start - promising ourselves this time we will follow through - we may be asking why change is so difficult...
In this three-part workshop, we will explore why change is such a struggle, and how it isn’t simply a matter of discipline, or a matter of mind, attitude, or positive thinking, but rather requires a holistic viewpoint.

We will learn what role the body and mind together play in sabotaging our dreams, or moving us toward our goals. Together we will break down the anatomy of sustainable change and learn step-by-step tools on how to create the changes you desire in a mindful and compassionate way.

108(ish) Sun Salutations with

108(ish) Sun Salutations with "Joni": A Ritual Opening To Summer with Joe Kara
Jun 20, 2015 - Jun 20, 2015
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Welcome in the warm summer months with Joe Kara and Yoni Berk, affectionately known around here as “Joni,” as they lead you on a journey of 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar. In Sanskrit, the word surya means sun; Surya Namaskar is a salute to the sun.

Sun Salutations awaken and warm the body, stretch our muscles and strengthen our limbs. Synchronizing breath with movement, they help cultivate our attention, calm the mind and serve to unify the community. 108 is considered a meaningful, sacred number in yoga and other eastern traditions. For example, mala beads are made of 108 beads used for meditation and prayer. 108 is also the number representing "the wholeness of existence." Many systems of yoga use Sun Salutations at the beginning of practice, as part of a morning ritual, recognizing the rising of the sun each day.

Never before done at InYoga, Joe and Yoni will guide you through 108(ish) quarter, half and full versions of Surya Namaskar A, B, and C. With modifications and variations, everyonecan do these poses. This experience will challenge you mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. And remember, there’s always child pose ;-).

This class is the kick off to Summer Camp at InYoga, worth two classes towards the 2015 Summer Challenge. All levels welcome.

Again, we welcome a special friend and influential teacher to many of us at InYoga, Baba Harihar Ramji (everyone calls him "Babaji”) for Satsang. In Sanskrit, the word Satsang means "in the company of truth” or "community gathering."

With wonderful humor, kindness and grace, Babaji bridges the ancient, sacred teachings of Yoga with modern life, in a "real world,” practical way. Babaji is based in Northern California, where he serves at Sonoma Ashram, a center for self-growth and retreat for people experiencing life’s challenges and transformations. He also leads Bal Ashram in Varanasi, India, which oversees humanitarian efforts supporting education, health care, sustainable agriculture and vocational training for orphaned children and young women.

As many of you know, Babaji visits InYoga regularly, once or twice a year. His time with us is an opportunity not only to receive the wisdom of Baba's teachings, but also a chance to get to know InYoga teachers, students and staff better outside of class. All are welcome.

Suggested minimum donation: $30. Majority proceeds will benefit the Sonoma Ashram Foundation.

Nuad Bo-Rarn, the Traditional Massage of Thailand, is an ancient form of therapeutic bodywork first practiced over 2500 years ago. This technique blends gentle rocking, rhythmic acupressure and deep assisted stretches to open, exercise and tone all the systems of the body. Thai Massage relaxes, refreshes and revitalizes the body, mind, and spirit. Joints are loosened and opened, muscles are stretched, internal organs are toned, vitality is increased and a deep state of relaxation can be achieved. Performed on a floor mat in loose comfortable clothing both practitioner and client shift through four traditional positions; front, back, side and seated. Thai Massage is often referred to as "yoga for lazy people" and practiced in a meditative state.

HypnoBirthing® Workshop

HypnoBirthing® Workshop
Feb 26, 2016 - Mar 25, 2016
7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

HypnoBirthing® - The Method to Ease Fear and Pain in Birthing Taught by Alisha Tamburri, CCHT, MH

•Easier birth
•More comfortable pregnancy
•Less fear and tension
•More relaxed and shorter labor
•Less medication
•Rapid post natal recovery
•Calmer parents and baby

HypnoBirthing® The Mongan Method created in 1989 by Marie Mongan is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. This method teaches that in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to accompany labor.

HypnoBirthing has become increasingly popular among pregnant women and their doctors, midwives and hospitals. When a woman is afraid the muscles in her uterus constrict causing pain and fear. HypnoBirthing breaks the fear-tension-pain syndrome by releasing conscious and subconscious fears. After learning visualization techniques, birth breathing, and self hypnosis women have given birth with little or no discomfort.

HypnoBirthing is the method to eliminate fear, shorten labor and create calmer parents and babies. This is a complete childbirth education course that covers what parents need to know about pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. This class creates a safe place for parents to address their fears and questions regarding birthing and becoming parents.

HypnoBirthing® includes HypnoMothering™, a $125 value.

Five sessions: Friday February 26, March 4, 11, 18, 25 - 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM in Studio 2.

Satsang with Babaji: A Community Gathering with Baba Ramji
Mar 25, 2016 - Mar 25, 2016
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Life Skills 101: An Exploration of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali with Christy Marsden

Life Skills 101: An Exploration of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali with Christy Marsden
Apr 08, 2016 - Apr 08, 2016
6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is the primary text for the Philosophy of Yoga and was created to help people reduce suffering, resulting in a more joyful life. Because the sutras were intended to be a dialogue between teacher and student, Christy struggled with ''reading'' the sutras for years as they never felt practical or accessible. Once she began studying the sutras in the traditional way with a teacher, they came alive as a wealth of wisdom and tools for living a most joyful life that is both practical and profound.

In this 3 hour session, intended for anyone and everyone interested in Yoga Philosophy, we will explore the sutras as a way to uncover the potential of the mind through knowledge of basic life lessons, reminders, tools and skills that are at the heart of the yogic teachings. We will do a general overview of the sutras as well as unravel specific sutras and how they can be applied in ways that are accessible and sustainable, allowing for integration into everyday life.

This workshop is discussion based and although we may do a few minutes of breath centered movement, yoga poses are not the focus of this workshop so you will not need a yoga mat, but please bring a journal.

Slow Down to Get Ahead

Slow Down to Get Ahead
Apr 29, 2016 - Apr 29, 2016
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Stop Everything!
How tapping the brakes and slowing down
in Restorative yoga actually puts you ahead.

Our daily lives are filled with forward momentum whether we like it or not. Change happens with our without our consent. Sometimes the only thing we have control over is our breath.
This Restorative workshop will allow you to press the ‘pause,’ button and observe where we really are. Even when moving forward is the best option this momentum can blur our vision to what we are really thinking, feeling and experiencing.
When we are in “fast-forward” we may miss not only beautiful moments in our lives and the spaces between those moments but important messages that our body, mind and spirit are sending us. Taking the time to inquire within ourselves allows us to recognize and enjoy what is really going on in our present life.
This workshop will involve long held Restorative poses that will allow us to find the priceless information in ourselves that can be lost when we are operating on cruise control.
There will be an opportunity between poses to write down any thoughts that may arise. Journals and writing implements will be provided but you may bring any favorite notebook of your choice.

Ancestral Breathwork Circle: Journey to an Ancient Future

Ancestral Breathwork Circle: Journey to an Ancient Future
Nov 11, 2016 - Nov 11, 2016
7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

Indigenous cultures worldwide celebrate connection with their ancestors as living energies. It is a fundamental way of "receiving and being with the world." In the West, much of our disconnection, suffering, disharmony and distraction arises from lack of a living relationship with our ancestors.
11.11 is an auspicious date to celebrate and honor your "life tree." Hear the ancient wisdom of your ancestors and release the unimportant. Return to your Divine home and awaken to your "original nature."
Embody gratitude, reconnect with your ancestral energies and receive their guidance. Quiet the mind and open the ancestral Way of the Heart.
Breathing in community as one "family," augments our depth of transformation. Allow this somatic pranayama meditation to connect you to the Divine above and your ancestors below.

Spring Clean Your Mind with Tiffany Fraser
Apr 29, 2017 - Apr 29, 2017
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Learn how your intention and attitude can transform your yoga.

One of the things that separates Yoga from other physical practices is the inclusion of breath and mindfulness. Without these two elements, the power of transformation can be diminished and the desire for a life long practice of yoga can falter.
Patanjali, considered the founder of yoga philosophy defines yoga as “The cessation of the fluctuations of the mind”.
So, how do we practice toward that end? How do we use the poses on the mat to create more enjoyment of life off the mat? How can we be and act more like the person we desire to be rather than stuck in our default settings?

Join Tiffany to explore these questions through asana, pranayama and philosophy instruction.

An Exploration of the Yoga Sutras

An Exploration of the Yoga Sutras
Sep 17, 2017 - Sep 17, 2017
1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is one of the primary Yoga Philosophy texts, created to help people reduce suffering, resulting in a more joyful life. Joe considers the sutras a key tool for expanding self awareness and that discussing them is to open up a box full of precious gems. With consideration, the sutras come alive as a wealth of wisdom and tools for living a most joyful life that is both practical and profound.
This workshop is discussion based and although we may do a few minutes of breath centered movement, yoga poses are not the focus of this workshop so you will not need a yoga mat, but please bring a notebook.

Restorative Yoga
Sep 14, 2018 - Sep 16, 2018

Restorative Yoga is a very gentle yoga practice designed to calm the nervous system and create overall health in the body. It offers simple yet powerful postures that can be integrated into existing yoga classes, healing treatments, or used to teach restorative specific classes. Restorative Yoga is a regenerative healing tool that reduces stress by supporting the body’s innate responses towards homeostasis and health. Through the use of supported yoga postures, breathing and meditative techniques, a profound sense of relaxation can infuse one’s entire being which leads to healing. Restorative Yoga techniques are helpful in the treatment of nervous system disorders, such as insomnia, hypertension, anxiety, and also with specific ailments such as cancer, although it often used for structural re-alignment and the healing of injuries. When the body is fully supported, it will naturally relax, releasing deeply held tensions. Restorative Yoga is the yoga of non-doing, and focuses on effortlessness and ease, using well-placed blankets, bolsters, yoga straps, and chairs to safely support the body in various postures.
